Can I hedge against falling interest rates in the US dollar by holding a forex position? My CDs rates are falling because the Fed is depressing rates. That's also sending the dollar down. Since our economy is slowing the Fed will probably drop rates more. I'm thinking that if I pick a country paying higher rates I should offset a lot of my loss in interest income. I probably won't put a lot of money there, but at 100:1 rates forex accounts have a lot of leverage. Is this a sound idea and if so, what currencies have good "carry trade" rates right now?

how can I get forex exchange rates sent to my cell phone, for example rates for USD/CHF?? I used to get alerts sent to my cell phone by yahoo finance. The alerts were time delayed but still it helped me, then Yahoo finance improved their site and now I can not get that information. I used to get quotes for EUR/USD AND USD/CHF AND GBP/USD. where do the interest rates come from in currency (forex) pairs? ive found this interesting, but cannot find the information. It would be beneficial so I can compare values of what the market prices the currency and the direction the interest rates are heading. All of that affects the value of the currencies respectively. In regards to the question, can someone informed answer this? I am looking at data history from central banks of Canada and other countries on their respective websites. Do "Foreign" GOLD COINS have 3 values? Do they have EXCHANGE RATES? Do foreign gold coins (say, Canadian Maple Leafs and other countries gold coins) have 3 values to them? 1) collectors appreciation value and 2) Daily spot/market price of the gold itself and 3) the foreign exchange value. And also, do real gold coins (foreign in this case) fluctuate according to exchange rates (FOREX RATES) . It would seem to me they should have some exchange rate since they could be used as currency if you wanted to. I am not sure. Thanks

is traveling to poor countries with a favorable foreign exchange rate morally objectionable? I was in Bangkok recently, and at my hotel there was a big sign saying "No Sex Tourists". This is important because Bangkok has a lot of sex tourists, and most of the hotels look the other way. But not my hotel. They were adamently against the whole idea of prostitution in Bangkok, and the sign explained why in a long list of reasons. I found one of the reasons very surprising. It said that it is morally reprehensible for westerners to come to Thailand in order to buy sex, given that foreign exchange rates are favorable to westerners, and as a result it is much cheaper to buy sex in Thailand than in their home countries. Clearly, one can find many legitimate reasons to argue against prostitution. But is this one of them? It strikes me that westerners in Thailand are not just benefiting from the ForEx rates for buying sex. They are benefiting every time they spend money in Thailand, whether its for food or hotel or anything else. Is that morally wrong? Are they "taking advantage"?

FOREX: Who can tell me when to use LIBOR versus LIBID? Say I'm long on EURUSD and I take the position overnight. Do I receive LIBID rates on EUR and pay LIBOR rates on USD? So I'm assuming that you're saying that the broker doesn't actually pay the interest rates to the customer? They seem to charge rates at 5pm everyday in the form of buys and sells one minute later... looks like I didn't hold a position where I bought pair that allowed for me to get paid there... Wow, still looking for more info. I buy EURUSD. I pay the LIBID on EUR? I collect the LIBOR on USD? The difference in rates is the % multiplier to the balance of my position? Is it correct for one to trade in currency forex offline (from Bank to Bank?)? Would like to find out if individuals conduct offline currency trading from one bank to another with a view to make profitss. I would like to do that personally given the income potential it has (am a student). What it means is I can use capital to Buy & Sell from one Bank to another according to daily rates. Forex Rollover? Can anybody explain what rollover fees are in Forex? I know they are the differences in overnight rates, but I still don't understand them. I saw a chart that had different values for each currency pair, why are some positive and some negative? If this chart is accurate, should I just trade currency pairs with a positive rollover fee?
Forex Currency Trading? I am looking into opening an account with forex and I had a few questions. I have on of their practice accounts and I like it but some times the exchange rates do not change. The rates freeze up from time to time. Why is this? Is the market closed at some time? Also is this just with my practice account or does this happen with live accounts too. Another question is what is the minimum investment that you can start an account with and be able to trade? I know its like $250 or something, but when you trade, the smallest amount is like $100,000. I know that with leverage that can be $1,000 but is there any way to get that lower? Could I make good money by trading Forex, starting with $500? Hello there, So I am curious whether I can make some money with Forex trading, by starting with relatively few amount of money. As far as I see the trends are small and for a 3 days period from Dec-15 to Dec-18 was the GBP/USD with +0.4% trend of the GBP. Well...I am not into this business so I have no idea what kind of money you need to start....but seeing the change rate above this means that if I buy GPB with 500USD and resell it 3 days later in the best possible case I will end up with 0.4 percents more? That of course will be funny money... So what you will advise me to do?
Peso-dollar exchange rate? I just found out recently from a friend of mine that the present forex rate in the Philippines is 46 pesos to a dollar. Do you think that this trend is gonna continue? Will the peso keep going up and the USD keep going down? Or is this just because of the Iraq war? All of my savings in the Philippines are in US dollars. I put them in when it was still 50 to 1$, so I'll definitely loose a lot if this goes on. I just want your opinion. I'm thinking of just changing all my savings to pesos. Would that be a good idea?
how to keep programs running after windows logoff? i need to run a program 24hrs 6 day per week on windows xp and also ensure that when i'm physically not present in the vicinity of my pc, no one can access the pc. this program downloads foreign exchange (forex) rates every X number of minutes of my choosing (X can be 1 minute, 5 minutes, 0.5 hours, 1 hours, 4 hours, etc). i can't logoff from windows xp as windows xp terminates all currently running programs. is there some kind of access control software that allows my program to continue running after i restrict access to my pc? i came across winu from www.bardon.com which seem to allow me to do so (check their faq). know of any other software?

Where is the best place to buy foreign currency? I want to buy the yuan with us dollars. I went to wells fargo and their rate (at .143) was considerably higher than the current conversion rate (.129 or so). Other banks I went to required accounts. Also, I heard airports do not offer good rates. Finally, please do not refer to local exchangers (street) or forex sites. I am looking to buy real currency from a trusted source at a rate near the current .129 rate. Thank you for your answers.
